You do not mention the volume or number of codes of your hierarchical data. Is it possible to change the hierarchical data in another format in your SPSS research?

I think I can share one of my examples about working with the hierarchical data in my SPSS research. In my data set, there are total eight codes which could be ordered. In that case, I firstly thought to consider all the codes and analyzed accordingly. But very soon I found that in that way I could not be able to draw any interpretation. Because if I considered the eight codes for six district, it actually gave me a huge table and it was really touch to me to find out any specific findings. In that case, I talked to my supervisor about the problem. We discussed on the issue and tried to find out the solution for the literature. Recently we found that in an another study, researchers had made the four groups on same type of hierarchical data group on another but same kind of SPSS research. We got the solution. We just made some categories.

So, it would be better if you express your problem in details with the example and then it would be possible for me to provide a suggestion. However, I think that if your hierarchical data means hierarchy is not so big, you can continue. If the length of data code is big, then you can think for some categories. To do that think about which categories are identical or have kind of homogeneity. Using the “Recode into different variable”, recode the identical values. If you find some data as homogeneous and some data are not homogeneous at all, then you can made a new category named “others”. Hope the problem of your SPSS research will be solved and next time please explain your problem in details.
