Our professor said that we need to forecast whether a new patient will die or stay alive after operation. We have a data set with information about current patients and it also includes surgery outcome. Is it possible to predict such a result using SPSS? if yes, what analysis or method can be used?

To forecast whether a new patient will die or stay alive after operation given data set with information about current patients and surgery outcome, one has to carry out diagnostic tests.

This is because not all operation ends up with the same result given the same symptoms from different patients.
Test for skewness and kurtosis for the two variables first to check distribution which is got from Analyze menu, Descriptive statistics, Frequency, statistics button, select both distribution (skewness and kurtosis). By this we know if our variables are normally distributed or not.
If our data from these variables are normally distributed we can apply Paired samples T test to predict. Procedure
    Analyze menu
    Compare means
    Paired samples T test
In the dialogue box click help for an example.

If it’s not normally distributed or unknown distribution we can use non-parametric tests.
Since our outcome we are predicting is dichotomous we can apply Binomial test but the best in this scenario is the 2 related samples test.
    Procedure Analyze menu
    Non-parametric test
    Binomial or 2 Related samples
In the dialogue box click help for an example.
